This article reflects on some contemporary challenges facing academic and scientific cooperation in Latin America (LATAM) through the experience of the international project Journalism Role Performance (JRP), particularly from the Colombian node. The text emerges from the reflections developed during Panel 2, “Actions carried out and underway in LATAM: Latin American efforts in communication and cooperation”, held within the framework of the Latin American Seminar on Communication and Academic and Scientific Cooperation organized by ALAIC in 2025. Drawing on this experience, the article examines inequalities shaping knowledge production, the limitations of competitive models of academic productivity, and the difficulties involved in sustaining long-term collaborative projects. Finally, it argues for the need to strengthen situated forms of cooperation capable of articulating methodological deliberation, research training, social appropriation of knowledge, and commitment to territorial realities.
